PS Vita Games

I decided to look at the PS vita’s games as well as the mini’s currently available and minis for the vita.

Monster’s probably stole my princess (mini)

·         Platformer
·         Combo’s for jumping on different platforms over combat
·         3 hit kill system on monsters
·         Bright art style
·         Applies to both male and female
·         Score leader-boards
·         Finishers are used to defeat boss
·         Medals used on levels dependent of the players score
·         In game achievement system for completing certain things in the game such as getting a certain medal on all levels

Monster's probably stole my princess is a top selling Ps mini, the logistic gameplay such as the achievements and leader boards allow the player to replay the game to beat their previous scores and unlock more levels depending on the medals and scores that they earn. The bright style catches the players attention and interests most audience. The very simple controls within the game give the game a wider audience, appealing to both a casual and hardcore audience

Where’s my heart? (mini)

·         Platformer/puzzle
·         Collect heart’s to unlock parts to the level
·         Series of boxes that don’t necessarily link together creating puzzles
·         3 playable characters used at once to help solve puzzles
·         Collect all hearts to complete the level
·         Male and female
·         Retro art style with bright feminine colours
·         Colour character related puzzles
·         No enemies

Where's my heart? is a fairly new PS mini that uses some really unique mechanics to create it's gameplay challenges. The pixelated look that game has reminds me of retro games and is probably aimed at people who have been play games for a while, however the stratergical gameplay allows for a potential larger audience as this makes you think and there is a large audience for these games. The boxes not linking means the player has to use more thought when attempting the puzzles.

Zombie tycoon

·         RTS
·         3D game
·         Mainly male oriented
·         Cartoon and simple art style
·         Different kinds of zombies
·         Personalise zombies
·         Comical game

This real time strategy  games allows players to control a horde of zombies to create havoc, these kinds of games usually appeal to male audience so there is a narrow audience already. the very simple and cartoon artwork for this game doesn't really work in this kind of 3D gameplay and is better suited in games like Moster's probably stole my princess where it can look crisp and well presented. The variation in characters is a good thing but is drowned by the repetitive and hard to understand gameplay.

Little Deviants

·         Ps Vita exclusive
·         Puzzles
·         Various types of “deviants” with different abilities
·         Male and female audience
·         Bright colours
·         Cartoon art styles
·         Use of rear touch pad to change the environment

Little Deviants is hard to research into as it is yet to be released. The gameplay uses both of the touch screens, using the rear touch screen to change the environment is a good idea as it allows more unique gameplay. The bright colours and "happy" art style remind me of little big planet and would appeal to both audiences the gameplay looks like this game is probably going to be strategical which is a good decision as it keeps a large audience. The strange and quirky characters or "Deviants" are a good idea as these catch players attention by standing compared to the likes of Nathan Drake from uncharted making.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

·         PS Vita exclusive
·         HD graphics
·         Touch pad controls used to reload and jump as well as use of normal buttons
·         Shooter
·         Male audience
·         Realistic art style
·         Gritty jungle environments

Uncharted Golden Abyss is a PS vita version of the top selling playstation 3 series. This means that fans of the series are likely buy this game already. It includes tactial gameplay and some strategical gameplay with area's were platforming is necessary. They use both touch screens for things such as reload and jump allowing for more unique gameplay than in the original playstation 3 games. The art style is the same as seen previous to attract fans of the series but with the new mechanics of touch could appeal to a larger audience. The game is main a shooter narrowing the audience to mainly male and more hardcore gamers.
